Rules and Requirements (keep this page for your records)

The Second Annual Detroit Windsor International Film Festival (The Festival) is a four-day celebration of the Art of Cinema, taking place on June 25-28, 2009.

The festival is open to a wide range of subject matter and techniques. The festival will exhibit short and feature length films in narrative, documentary and animated forms. It is open to any filmmaker and is not limited to recent productions.

RULES:

  • The Festival does not pay shipping, customs or insurance costs for shipping selected works to the festival
  • The Festival does not pay for the return of exhibition prints, except through special arrangement with a DWIFF administrator
  • Preview materials will not be returned
  • The Festival does not pay rental fees for work submitted
  • Signing entry form certifies that you are the rightful owner of the submitted work and own all rights and releases necessary for public screening
  • If your film is selected, you are required to provide an exhibition copy for screening no later than June 1, 2008 and agree to hold Detroit Windsor International Film Festival harmless in the event of loss or damage to entry and/or festival screening materials
  • Partial or incomplete entries cannot be accepted
  • Films in every category may be eligible for Director's awards.  All decisions by the judges are final.
  • All video must be delivered in NTSC (US) format

ACCEPTED FORMATS:
Preview: DVD (region 0 or region 1)

Exhibition: DVD, Blu-Ray DVD.  Upon acceptance, Additional formats accommodated only through special arrangements with a DWIFF administrator.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES and FEES:

Early-bird Deadline: April 10, 2009
Fee: $25 (Withoutabox Discounted Fee:  $20)
Students:  $15 ($10 on withoutabox) Must include photocopy of a current student ID

Regular Deadline: May 8, 2009
Fee: $35 (Withoutabox Discounted Fee:  $30)
Students:  $20 ($15 on withoutabox) Must include photocopy of a current student ID

Late Deadline:  May 22, 2009

Fee: $35 (Withoutabox Discounted Fee:  $30)
Students:  $20 ($15 on withoutabox) Must include photocopy of a current student ID

WAB* Extended Deadline:  May 29, 2009
Fee: $50 (Withoutabox Discounted Fee:  $45)
Students:  $30 ($25 on withoutabox) Must include photocopy of a current student ID

*To qualify for the withoutabox extended deadline, you must register your film using the withoutabox online system, and receive acknowledgement from a DWIFF Administrator.

Method of payment:

Check, money order or PayPal (or via Credit Card on withoutabox.com). Make checks payable to DETROIT WINDSOR INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL or DWIFF.  If the entry fee has been paid via PayPal, please include a printout of your transaction from the PayPal web site indicating payment.

3. Send completed entry form, entry fee, preview copy and brief synopsis of your film to the address below (Optional materials: posters, digital or printed film stills, filmmaker bios, reviews, list of previous screenings)

FINAL DEADLINE:

MAY 29, 2009.  This is the last day of the a special Late Deadline exclusively through withoutabox.
